Overview
Tucked among the cobbled lanes of Camara de Lobos, Pestana Fisherman Village is a characterful 4-star boutique bolthole with just 42 rooms, a rooftop pool and a thoroughly modern take on Madeira’s fishing heritage. A sensitive restoration blends exposed stone and terracotta rooftops with sleek, contemporary interiors, while the harbour, seafood restaurants and local bars are just steps away. Certified as a sustainable hotel and sold on a relaxed bed & breakfast basis, it’s a stylish choice for couples and small families who want local life on the doorstep rather than a big resort feel.

Map & location
Camara de Lobos, Madeira, Portugal
Pestana Fisherman Village sits in the heart of Camara de Lobos, a colourful fishing town on Madeira’s sunny south coast, famously painted by Sir Winston Churchill in the 1950s. Step outside and you’re immediately on the main street, lined with small shops, hole-in-the-wall bars pouring local poncha, and seafood restaurants along the harbour.
Vigário Beach, a small pebbly cove perfect for a quick dip, is about 200m away, while Funchal’s historic centre, cable car and gardens are just a short drive or bus ride along the coast. It’s a great base if you want easy access to levada walks and viewpoint drives without staying in a large, busy resort.

- • Cristiano Ronaldo Madeira International Airport (FNC) 25km

Facilities
Pool & outdoors
The hotel’s star feature is its rooftop pool, set on a terrace with views over the terracotta rooftops, church spires and colourful fishing boats in Camara de Lobos bay. It’s compact but well designed, with plenty of sunbeds and parasols for a lazy afternoon above the town.
• Outdoor freshwater pool on the roof terrace
• Sunbathing area with sunbeds and parasols
• Free pool towels
For sea swimming, Vigário Beach is about 200m away. Like many Madeiran beaches it’s pebbly rather than sandy, but the water is clear and you’re right by local cafés and bars.
Spa, sports & wellness
Pestana Fisherman Village focuses on calm, easy-going days rather than a long list of activities. There’s no full spa or organised entertainment programme, which suits guests who prefer to explore Madeira or simply enjoy the rooftop and harbourfront.
On site you’ll find:
• Reception with concierge-style support
• Luggage storage for early arrivals/late departures
• Access to English-language newspapers (local charge may apply)
You’re also perfectly placed to arrange levada walks, coastal hikes, whale-watching trips, jeep tours and wine or poncha tastings through local operators in Camara de Lobos or nearby Funchal.
Activities
