Caniço’s coastline is made for cliffside hotels, and Roca Mar makes full use of it. The property sits high above the Atlantic with uninterrupted sea views and steps down to a rocky sea platform and saltwater pool.
You’re around 200m from a small cluster of cafés, shops and bars, with a pebble beach roughly 850m away. Caniço’s main resort centre is a short drive uphill, while Funchal’s harbour, old town and cable car are about 11km away, easily reached by local transport or the hotel’s weekday shuttle.

The nearest natural beach is a small pebble bay about 850m away. As with much of Madeira, beaches are mostly rocky, so this set-up is ideal if you prefer a pool-side perch with sea access rather than wide sandy shores.

Bar Rocamar – Cocktail Bar
Open roughly 11:00–00:00 (hours can vary with occupancy), the bar mixes local and international drinks, including cocktails, wines and Madeiran poncha, all served with those huge Atlantic views.

Madeira pairs year-round mild temperatures with dramatic scenery, so Rocamar Complex – Roca Mar Hotel works well in both summer and winter. Caniço itself has two distinct sides: a quiet coastal strip with lidos and rocky bathing platforms, and a more traditional hilltop village with cobbled streets, gardens and an 18th-century church.
Local basics: language is Portuguese, currency is the Euro (€), and there is no time difference with the UK. Flight time from the UK to Funchal (FNC) is typically around 4 hours, with an approximate 20-minute road transfer from the airport to the hotel.
Due to the clifftop setting, steps and sea access points, this property may not be suitable for guests with significantly reduced mobility, and children should be supervised at all times near the water and terraces.
