Why book Royal Caribbean

Why a Royal Caribbean voyage?

Six reasons we recommend this line to the right kind of traveller.

The boldest ships at sea

FlowRider surf simulators, ziplines, ice rinks, rock-climbing walls, the tallest waterslides at sea, skydiving simulators, dodgem cars, North Star observation pod. Royal Caribbean ships are floating theme parks — every Icon and Oasis-class ship raises the bar.

The Icon-class ships

Icon of the Seas (2024) and Star of the Seas (2025) are the largest cruise ships ever built — 250,000+ tonnes, 7,600 guests, eight "neighbourhoods" including Thrill Island, Surfside (family zone), Suite Neighborhood, AquaDome and Central Park. Star of the Seas is the featured ship in your search above.

Perfect Day at CocoCay

Royal Caribbean's private Bahamas island, voted Best Private Destination by Travel Weekly readers three years running. Thrill Waterpark, helium balloon, ziplines, Coco Beach Club (suite-only), Oasis Lagoon swim-up bar — included on most Caribbean itineraries.

No-fly from Southampton on Anthem

Anthem of the Seas sails seasonal Southampton itineraries — Mediterranean, Northern Europe, Norwegian Fjords. Quantum-class ship with North Star pod, Two70 panoramic lounge, RipCord skydiving and bumper cars. Drive to the ship; no flights needed.

Family cruising at scale

Free supervised kids' clubs from age 3, dedicated teen spaces, family-size cabins and connecting rooms, family-pool zones, kids' menus in every restaurant, plus the Royal Tots nursery for under-3s on the Icon-class ships. Genuinely engineered for multi-generational holidays.

270+ ports worldwide

Caribbean (Eastern, Western, Southern, Bahamas, CocoCay, Labadee), Mediterranean, Northern Europe and the British Isles, Alaska, Asia, Australia and New Zealand, plus transatlantic and World Cruise sectors. Every major cruise region, every season.

The honest version

Might not be for you if…

No cruise line is for everyone. Here's where Royal Caribbean might not fit. We'll point you elsewhere if so.

You want a small, quiet ship

Royal Caribbean ships are big — Icon-class carries 7,600 guests, Oasis-class around 6,000, Quantum-class around 4,200. If you want 200-guest small-ship cruising, look at Oceania, Viking Ocean or Sea Cloud.

You want adults-only

Royal Caribbean is family-first. Solariums on most ships are 16+ adults-only zones, but the rest of the ship is multi-generational. For genuinely adults-only cruising, Virgin Voyages, Saga or Viking Ocean is the fit.

You want all-inclusive

Royal Caribbean fares are not all-inclusive. Drinks, Wi-Fi, gratuities, speciality dining and shore excursions are all separate. The Royal Deluxe Beverage Package brings drinks under one fee, but the base fare is just the cabin and main dining. Saga or Marella bake more in.

You want refined, calm onboard atmosphere

Royal Caribbean is high-energy — pool-deck DJs, water parks, theatre productions, casinos, large guest counts in every venue. If you want a quieter, more refined atmosphere look at Celebrity Cruises (their premium sister-line) or Princess.
