Argentina holidays
Buenos Aires tango, Patagonia's glaciers and granite peaks, Mendoza's Malbec valleys and Iguazu Falls — Argentina is South America at scale.
Overview
Welcome to Argentina
Argentina is South America's most European-feeling country and one of its most travel-rewarding — Buenos Aires' Belle Époque architecture and tango culture, the Andean wine country of Mendoza (the world's fifth-largest wine producer with the Malbec varietal at its heart), Iguazú Falls on the Brazilian border (one of the world's seven natural wonders, with 275 falls across 2.7km of jungle), Patagonia's extremes (the Perito Moreno glacier near El Calafate, the Fitz Roy mountain trekking around El Chaltén, the Beagle Channel from Ushuaia at the southern tip), and the wildlife of the Valdés Peninsula (orcas, southern right whales, elephant seals, penguins).
A 14-21 day classic Argentina trip: Buenos Aires (3-4 nights — Recoleta, San Telmo, Palermo, the tango show at Rojo Tango, the steakhouse parrilla scene at Don Julio or La Cabrera) → Mendoza wine country (3 nights — Bodega Catena Zapata, Achaval Ferrer, the Uco Valley boutiques) → Iguazú Falls (2 nights, both sides via the Brazilian crossing) → Patagonia: fly Buenos Aires to El Calafate for Perito Moreno glacier and the Estancia Cristina ice-trek (3 nights), bus or fly to El Chaltén for Fitz Roy day-hikes (2-3 nights), optional Ushuaia for the Beagle Channel and Tierra del Fuego NP (2 nights), with optional Antarctica cruise add-on from Ushuaia (10-21 nights, Nov-March).

The food is genuinely exceptional: parrilla (grilled meat — bife de chorizo, ojo de bife, vacío), empanadas (the Salta varieties are the best), choripán (chorizo sandwich), dulce de leche on everything, Malbec wine universally affordable. Argentinian Spanish has a distinctive cadence (the "sh" sound for double-l/y) and the cultural mannerisms are more Italian than Spanish-American. Tango is alive — milongas (social tango dance halls) run nightly in Buenos Aires neighbourhoods.
Best for: foodies and wine travellers (Mendoza is world-class), adventure travellers (Patagonia trekking, Antarctica), cultural-and-tango travellers (Buenos Aires), wildlife travellers (Valdés Peninsula, Iguazú), photographers (Patagonia's light is famous). Often combined with Chile (Atacama, Patagonia overlap), Brazil (Iguazú), or as a standalone 3-week trip.
