Map & location
Porto Moniz, Madeira, Portugal
Porto Moniz is a tiny Atlantic-front town dramatically sandwiched between Madeira’s trademark green mountains and black volcanic rock. Aqua Natura Bay occupies a panoramic clifftop position, giving you uninterrupted ocean vistas on one side and terraced, forested slopes on the other.
You’re a short stroll from the relaxed resort centre with a handful of cafés, restaurants and viewpoints, and just 600m from the famous Porto Moniz natural swimming pools – lava-rock basins filled with crystal-clear sea water. Further inland, the UNESCO-listed Laurissilva Forest and classic levada paths fan out in all directions, making this one of Madeira’s best bases for hiking and scenic drives.

Facilities
Pool & outdoors
Aqua Natura Bay makes the most of its cliffside position with a choice of pools and lounging spaces.
Outdoors, a saltwater pool hugs the seafront, edged by a sun terrace with loungers, Balinese beds and parasols – perfect for basking in the Atlantic breeze. There’s also a rooftop-style area for even bigger views and those all-important horizon shots. Inside, you’ll find a heated saltwater pool ideal for cooler days or a relaxing end to an active afternoon. Pool towels are provided free of charge.
There’s no conventional sandy beach in Porto Moniz – this is wild, volcanic coastline – but the hotel is within easy reach of the town’s famous natural lava pools, where rock basins have been shaped into safe, scenic sea-swimming spots.
Spa, sports & wellness
The compact spa and wellness area punches well above its weight for a hotel of this size. You’ll find:
• Spa with sauna, steam room, Turkish bath and whirlpool
• A menu of massage and beauty treatments (local charge; reservations recommended)
• Gym with cardio machines, free weights and fixed resistance equipment (approx. 08:00–20:00)
Elsewhere around the property you can expect a 24-hour style reception presence, concierge-style assistance for organising levada walks and excursions, luggage storage and the option to hire or charge mobility scooters (extra cost).

Food & drink
Start the day in style at Lapa Bay, the hotel’s à la carte restaurant with floor-to-ceiling ocean views and a focus on international dishes with a Madeiran twist. Breakfast is the main event here, with hot and cold options, fresh fruit and pastries, plus a kids’ menu and highchairs for families.
Later on, the lounge bar is the natural gathering spot for a glass of vinho verde, a Poncha cocktail or a local beer as the sun sinks into the Atlantic. Expect a relaxed, intimate vibe rather than big-resort entertainment.
A smart-casual dress code may apply in the evening and opening hours can change seasonally. Reservations or supplements may apply depending on whether you’re staying on Bed and Breakfast or Half Board – check the latest details on arrival.
