Map & location
Porto Moniz, Madeira, Portugal
Porto Moniz is where Madeira’s wilder side meets small-town charm. The studios sit between lush, green mountains and the Atlantic Ocean, just a short stroll from the resort centre, seafront promenade and the natural rock pools that put Porto Moniz on the map.
From here you’re perfectly placed for scenic drives, levada walks and day trips into the Laurissilva Forest. After a day in the hills, wander back to waterfront restaurants for grilled fish and a glass of Madeira wine, then retreat to your quiet, modern studio above the waves.

Facilities
Pool & outdoors
Studios by Aqua Natura Hotels doesn’t have a traditional swimming pool, but you won’t miss it: Porto Moniz’s spectacular natural lava pools are just 250m away. These crystal-clear basins filled by the ocean are one of Madeira’s most iconic bathing spots, ideal for refreshing dips with a dramatic Atlantic backdrop (entry fee may apply).
Back at the property, the highlight is the rooftop terrace with whirlpool, where you can soak your muscles after a levada walk and drink in the views across Ilhéu Mole and the crashing surf below.
Spa, sports & wellness
While the vibe here is more about nature than nightlife, you still have access to wellbeing facilities via the Aqua Natura complex:
Spa & wellness (off-site)
• Off-site spa with sauna, steam room, Turkish bath and massage treatments*
• Approx. opening hours 08:00–20:00
• Minimum age typically 12 years for spa area
Other facilities
• Reception with concierge-style service
• Luggage storage
• Equipment for hire including fans, kettles and motorised scooters*
• Motorised scooter charging (on request)
This is very much a base for getting out there – most days you’ll likely be hiking levadas, visiting viewpoints or exploring other northern villages before coming back to unwind on the rooftop.
Activities
Studios by Aqua Natura Hotels keeps things deliberately relaxed on site, with the emphasis firmly on the great outdoors that surrounds you:
• Use of the rooftop terrace and whirlpool for relaxing soaks with Atlantic views
• Easy access to Porto Moniz natural swimming pools for sea-fed bathing*
• Superb base for levada walks and hikes in the Laurissilva Forest
• Opportunities nearby for cycling, canyoning, surfing and canoeing with local operators*
It’s very much a “do-your-own-thing” place – ideal if you prefer independent exploring over organised hotel entertainment.
Guest services
• Reception with friendly local staff and concierge-style assistance
• Luggage storage for early arrivals or late departures
• Equipment hire including fans, kettles and motorised scooters*
• Motorised scooter charging facilities
• Free Wi-Fi throughout the property
The atmosphere is personal and welcoming, more like a small aparthotel than a large resort, which suits couples and independent travellers particularly well.
Food & drink
There’s no large on-site restaurant here – instead, you get a more authentic, “stay-like-a-local” setup.
Guests on Bed and Breakfast or Half Board typically take meals at the nearby Aqua Natura Madeira Hotel, around 300m away, where a buffet breakfast is served in the main restaurant. Expect a mix of continental favourites, hot options and local touches.
Evenings in Porto Moniz are low-key and atmospheric. Within a few minutes’ walk you’ll find seafront cafés and restaurants serving fresh seafood, espetada (Madeiran skewers), traditional stews and hearty soups, plus cosy bars ideal for a post-hike poncha.
Board options here are ideal if you like the security of breakfast or Half Board but still want the freedom to try different local spots. What All Inclusive typically includes.
