Overview

Wrapped around a pine-scented hillside above Sardinia’s luminous Golfo di Olbia, VOI Colonna Village feels like a classic Mediterranean holiday village – whitewashed buildings, sea views and plenty of space for families to spread out. With two pools, kids’ clubs, three restaurants and a complimentary shuttle to a sandy cove with sunbeds and umbrellas, it’s made for easy-going beach days and active, outdoorsy stays. The split between Colonna Village Hotel and the more upmarket Beach Hotel means you can tailor the experience, from simple, comfortable rooms to upgraded Deluxe options with extra perks.

Sardinian sunshine, terraced gardens and sweeping sea views set the scene at VOI Colonna Village. Low-rise buildings tumble towards the bay, framing two inviting pools and a sociable central piazza. Down at the beach, soft sand, turquoise shallows and neatly lined sunbeds invite full days by the water, while back at base there’s a choice of buffet and à la carte dining, lively entertainment (often Italian in flavour) and dedicated family zones that keep all ages happy. For couples and families seeking Sardinia’s coastal charm without the bling of the Costa Smeralda, VOI Colonna Village delivers a laid-back village feel, big open views and activity-packed days. It’s around 30 minutes from Olbia Airport by road. See more Italy holidays.

Map & location

The low-rise, village-style complex is wrapped in Mediterranean greenery with wide sea views and a tucked-away feel – perfect if you’re happy to swap nightlife for nature, space and starry skies.

Golfo Aranci and its 15+ beaches, harbourfront restaurants and low-key bars are just a short drive away, and with a hire car you can range further along the coast to postcard-perfect spots like Spiaggia Bianca and the Costa Smeralda.

Facilities

Pool & outdoors

You’ll find two outdoor freshwater pools at VOI Colonna Village, framed by sun terraces, parasols and plenty of loungers. One sits at the heart of the village, a natural hub for daytime animation and pool games, while the other tends to feel a touch more relaxed for those who prefer quieter swims and reading in the sun. Pool towels are available with a refundable deposit.

Down at the nearest beach, a crescent of pale sand meets clear, shallow water – great for paddling and snorkelling with children. Sunbeds and umbrellas are set out in rows; most room types include complimentary use from the third or fourth row back (subject to availability), while Economy rooms and front-row positions carry a local charge.

Getting there is easy thanks to the hotel’s complimentary beach shuttle (seasonal timetable), though active guests may enjoy the walk, noting the return is uphill. From the shore, simple water sports such as canoeing and water walkers are typically offered in season (local charges and weather permitting).

Spa, sports & wellness

This is a resort designed for doing as much – or as little – as you like. On the activity side, there’s a packed programme of aerobics, aqua aerobics, dance classes, football, tennis, pilates and yoga, plus an open-air fitness area that makes the most of Sardinia’s balmy climate.

Entertainment is another big draw: between roughly late May and late September you can expect daily daytime activities (team games, family challenges, water sports) and nightly shows in the amphitheatre, ranging from professional performances to in-house productions, live music and cabaret. In shoulder season (mid–late May) the programme usually scales back to occasional activities and evening music. Much of the entertainment is delivered in Italian, adding to the authentic, local feel.

For wind-down time, there’s a small beauty area offering massages and treatments (extra charge; opening hours and menu vary), plus a reception desk where you can arrange hire of baby equipment such as pushchairs and bottle warmers. Luggage storage is available for early arrivals and late departures.

Food & drink

The dining set-up at VOI Colonna Village is impressively flexible for families and couples alike. Classic and Premium rooms are centred around the main Sos Aranzos buffet restaurant, where breakfast, lunch and dinner are served with live cooking stations and plenty of Italian and international favourites. There’s a kids’ corner with child-friendly dishes, highchairs and a dedicated buffet to keep younger guests happy.

Guests in Deluxe rooms, housed in The Beach Hotel section, enjoy an upgraded culinary experience with breakfast in the elegant Bellevue Restaurant and lunch and dinner on the Tavolara Terrace, still buffet-style but with a more intimate feel and lovely views.

Three bars keep drinks and snacks flowing: the convivial VOI Village Bar and pool bar for daytime refreshments, plus Bistrot Bellevue, a paid snack bar on the terrace that’s ideal for lazy coffees, aperitivi and light bites between meals (opening hours and inclusions vary with season and board plan). A smart casual dress code applies in restaurants in the evening, and some à la carte or specialty options may require reservations or supplements.

FAQs

Is VOI Colonna Village right for families?
Yes – VOI Colonna Village is very family-oriented. There are multiple room types for 3–5 guests, interconnecting Classic Family rooms, children’s buffets and menus in the restaurants, the VOI4 Family club for ages roughly 3–17 years (seasonal), plus a small club for little ones 0–2 years. Add in the shallow, sandy beach and activity programme and it’s a strong choice if you want organised fun alongside relaxed beach time.
How does the beach service work and is it free?
The nearest sandy beach is about 500m away, reachable on foot or by free hotel shuttle. Sunbeds and umbrellas are laid out in rows. Most Classic, Premium and Family room types include complimentary use of sunbeds and umbrellas from around the 3rd or 4th row back (subject to availability). Deluxe guests typically have a specific reserved umbrella plus two loungers from the 3rd row. Front-row spots and Economy room beach services are payable locally, and prices can change season by season.
What’s the difference between Classic, Premium and Deluxe rooms?
Classic and Premium rooms are in the Colonna Village building, with Classic as the standard option and Premium usually enjoying better positions and views over the gulf. Facilities are similar, with air conditioning, balcony or terrace and simple, comfortable décor. Deluxe rooms are in The Beach Hotel section, closer to the sea and more recently refurbished. They come with added perks such as a stocked minibar on arrival, tea and coffee making facilities, turndown service, enhanced amenities, daily beach towel change on request and upgraded dining venues (Bellevue Restaurant and Tavolara Terrace).
What’s included in the Full Board Plus / All Inclusive-style plan?
The more inclusive board plan at VOI Colonna Village usually covers buffet-style breakfast, lunch and dinner in the main Sos Aranzos restaurant for Classic and Premium rooms, with drinks (water, soft drinks, beer and house wine from dispensers) during meals. Deluxe guests dine in Bellevue/Tavolara. Snacks are normally available twice per day, and an open bar at the Pool Bar and VOI Village Bar offers a selection of soft drinks, juices, draught beer, wine, coffee, local liqueurs, spirits and cocktails. Bottled drinks, ice creams and premium/imported brands are typically excluded or surchargeable. Exact inclusions vary by season, so we’ll confirm at the time of booking.
Is the location too remote if I don’t plan to hire a car?
The hotel’s remote hillside position is part of its appeal – it’s peaceful and scenic, but you won’t find a strip of bars and shops on the doorstep. If you’re happy to spend most of your time between the resort, beach and organised excursions, you can manage without a car, thanks to the beach shuttle and on-site facilities. However, if you’d like to dine out in Golfo Aranci regularly, explore multiple beaches or roam the Costa Smeralda independently, car hire is highly recommended.
Is Wi-Fi available throughout the resort?
Free Wi-Fi is advertised in the communal areas, such as reception and some bars. As with many village-style, low-rise resorts in rural locations, coverage in rooms and outdoor spaces can vary, so we suggest treating it as adequate for messaging and light browsing rather than heavy streaming.
When does the entertainment and kids’ club operate?
The full VOI4 Family programme and daily entertainment typically run from around 30 May to 27 September, with a scaled-back, occasional programme between mid and late May. Outside these dates the hotel is generally quieter and there may be limited or no formal activities. Much of the animation and shows are presented in Italian, giving a local flavour – most families adjust easily, but it’s worth knowing if you prefer English-only entertainment.
